I am fascinated about the human brain and emotions. I don’t recall exactly when I started to be. A few moments come to mind.

I feel the seed was planted when I was a teenager living in Colombia. It was a Thursday night and I was watching a Discovery Channel program on rare diseases. That’s how I discovered that I was passionate about human beings. It was clear to me- I wanted to study medicine. When the opportunity to move abroad came, it didn’t take me long before I realize that humans beings are much more complex than their anatomy. Spoiler alert! I didn’t study medicine.
At eighteen years old, I moved to London, leaving behind my family, my friends, and my culture. The seed started growing. I think everyone who has lived abroad can relate to the cocktail of emotions one feels the first few months, some even lasting years. You find yourself overwhelmed, lost, confused, fearful, thrilled, excited, like living in a beautiful carousel of emotions with no instructions to follow. I realized there was something really important that no one had taught me before: the power of my emotions. We as human beings can actually use our emotions as a compass to guide us toward our desires!
The real urge to understand emotions hit me when a loved one fell mentally unstable.I did not understand what was happening or how I could be of help. I started researching the most basic questions: “What are the differences between emotions, feelings, and moods?”; “What are thoughts, exactly?”; “Why do we have emotions?”; “Why are they so important?”; And perhaps most importantly, “Who can help me and how?” My curiosity led me to the book Your Erroneous Zones by Wayne W. Dyer. It helped me understand the importance of mental health and that which makes humans special, the complexity of our emotions.
At my university, I had a subject called Neuromarketing which studies the measurement of physiological and neural signals to gain insight into customers’ motivations, preferences, and decisions. Such studies help form creative advertising, product development, pricing, and other marketing areas. I found it both fascinating and shocking to learn that there is an emotion behind every decision we make. Here was this whole field dedicated to carefully studying every decision we make.I started to wonder “Do we even have a choice in every decision we make or is the decision already made for us?”. I still don’t have an answer. In fact, I think it could be a lifetime search for those answers, but certain science does show that emotions are involved behind our decision making.
Since then, I have been in constant pursuit to improve and understand myself and others better. When I joined GroundInn, I felt I found the right place to start sharing my passion and hopefully inspire others to start the beautiful journey of deeper understanding and creating meaningful connections in our community.
Feeling Aligned is my first program. While developing the course, an emotion oh yet too familiar tagged along for the ride : fear. Fear of failure to be precise, asking to be a protagonist in this creative process. I had to put into practice all my tools and knowledge as a result of my personal pursuit to use my feelings as power. This program is a combination of all the books, courses and tools I have learned so far. The program contains a holistic perspective using our emotions as a main compass to guide through life. We will answer the most basic questions about emotions, introduction to EQ, keys to cultivate EQ, emotions at work, and creating new habits.Along the way, I will be providing resources and tips to add to the lessons.
We created a program of six weeks. I know that some of you might be thinking that it will be too much to study one lesson a week, so why the six weeks? Simply because it’s a journey, not a night and a day, but a process; a program about the growth mindset, and not just about the destination. We will also have private sessions to solve any questions you may have.
Our emotions will always be a part of our life. It’s about understanding and owning that, about being able to adapt and change when needed. I’m excited to share with you a program that will help you understand your emotions and make you feel aligned in all aspects of your life. We will find the power in our emotions and create a new way of being and experiencing our world in a way that will bring us more happiness and success. I can’t wait to share this with you and see your faces when you realize how powerful your emotions are and how they can change your life. I hope you will join me on this journey, the program is starting on the 16th of June in our community online.
As the spoiler said, I didn’t study medicine or psychology. I decided to study business management, public relations and marketing because I was captivated by the idea of empowering our emotions where we are exposed the most: at work. I am meant to lead teams that are emotionally intelligent and create an impact in people’s lives while working.
